From February 2 to 5, as part of activities aimed at strengthening institutional relations between Colombia and the United States, as well as promoting political, academic, and community dialogue.
Within the framework of this agenda, the Head of State will hold an institutional meeting at the White House on February 3 with the President of the United States, Donald Trump, as part of a dialogue space intended to present Colombia’s priorities and the general lines of bilateral cooperation on matters of mutual interest.
During his stay in Washington, President Petro will also meet with members of the Colombian diaspora, in a gathering scheduled to take place at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library, with the participation of Colombian nationals residing in the U.S. capital.
The official agenda also includes a lecture at Georgetown University, in which the President will address the challenges of climate change in the Americas, from a regional and global perspective.
In the same period, the President will hold institutional meetings with the Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS) and with members of the United States Congress, from both the Republican and Democratic parties, in dialogue spaces focused on issues of hemispheric interest.
Additionally, the Head of State will meet with associations from the U.S. cocoa sector, with the aim of exploring avenues for cooperation and commercialization of this product of Colombia, within the framework of strategies linked to rural development and crop substitution processes.
The Washington agenda includes differentiated spaces for political, legislative, academic, and community dialogue, in line with a foreign policy oriented toward the defense of national interests and the strengthening of institutional engagement.
